My new favorite find came just in time for our universal Splash into Summer, though I swear it’s not a seasonal fondness. Samantha French is doing something I haven’t seen in any art lately, figural representation in water depicted as dynamically as those who move through it.

The way she paints her subjects is reminiscent of Eric Fischl’s current work, though more spirited and alive. The water enhances a playful dappling of light. It makes them so fun to look at!

I spent many summer days in a pool as a child (didn’t we all?). I distinctly remember the way my sister’s hair used to flow out behind her like an angel, and how the light danced around her tan skin. We are so beautiful underwater.
